Eleven individuals sustained asphyxiation injuries on Monday following an ammonia gas leak at an industrial complex in the Jordanian city of Aqaba. Specialized authorities managed to bring the leak under technical control shortly after its occurrence. Nidal Al-Ouran, Commissioner for Environment and Public Safety at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, confirmed that the cases of asphyxiation varied between mild and moderate. He noted that some injured persons received treatment at the complex's clinic, while others were transferred to the hospital. Al-Ouran affirmed the presence of Civil Defense and security forces at the site, along with the successful technical containment of the leak. He clarified that the incident happened during maintenance of an old pump or pressure device, with a prior accumulation of ammonia gas causing a limited release during those operations.
