In a move aimed at calming the atmosphere and closing the door on mounting speculations regarding their bilateral relationship, Portugal national team manager Jorge Jesus made sure to publish a photo featuring team star Cristiano Ronaldo, accompanied by a message emphasizing the immense value of the player known as El Don. Jesus posted an archival photo via his official Instagram account, showing him shaking hands with Ronaldo ahead of a match, and commented on it affirming that Cristiano represents a true symbol of the Portuguese national team and the entire country as well, stressing that this must be very clear to everyone without any ambiguity. The roots of the current tension date back to the recent Norway encounter, when Ronaldo remained on the bench for the entire ninety minutes despite warming up, in a match that ended with a victory for Portugal by two goals to one. The tension and media heat escalated after statements made by Jesus confirming that Ronaldo would not start against Denmark either, attributing this to purely technical and objective choices. Following these developments, Ronaldo unexpectedly left the national team camp. In a subsequent post via his personal Instagram account, the Portuguese star declared that he will reveal in due time to the entire Portuguese people the true reasons behind this controversial decision.
