Eisenkot Assigned to Form New Israeli Government

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has officially assigned Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the "Yesh Atid" party, to form the new government after receiving recommendations from parliamentary blocs totaling 67 Knesset members, compared to 46 members who supported Benjamin Netanyahu, based on consultations held with representatives of the winning parties in the parliamentary elections. The Israeli presidency stated that Herzog held separate meetings with Eisenkot and Netanyahu and informed them of his decision. Herzog had previously announced in a statement on November 2 that his consultations with parliamentary blocs aim to explore all possible options and alternatives for forming a coalition government, noting that he might conduct an additional round of consultations if necessary. It is noteworthy that outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for the formation of a national unity government, warning against rushing the government formation process.
