Veteran Turkish actress Gülsen Tuncer has passed away at 81, following a battle with brain cancer. Her death concludes a rich artistic career spanning over five decades, transitioning between theater, cinema, and television. Tuncer is especially known for her prominent role in the series "Aşk-ı Memnu," which achieved widespread public acclaim in the Arab world. The Film-San Art Foundation announced Tuncer's demise yesterday, Thursday, noting she previously served as Vice President of its Board. Her health deteriorated in recent days, leading to hospitalization where she died. Tuncer gained widespread fame in the Arab world for her role in the 2008 series "Aşk-ı Memnu" (Forbidden Love). She portrayed "Arsen Hanim," sister of "Adnan Bey," in the drama, which achieved massive popularity regionally, cementing her name in the memory of Arab viewers. Despite her name's Arab world association with this role, the late artist contributed to dozens of works, with roughly 80 drama and cinema participations. Including series like "Three Istanbul," "Day Palace," "Çalıkuşu," "Fahriye and Her Daughters," and her final appearance in the 2022 series "The Judge." Born in Adana in 1945, Gülsen Tuncer began her professional career in 1968 after studying theater at Istanbul Municipal Conservatory of Music. Her talents extended to directing, composing, songwriting, voice acting, and teaching at Istanbul Technical University. Throughout her artistic journey, Tuncer received several awards, including Best Supporting Actress at the Ankara Film Festival in 1989 and an award from the Antalya Film Festival in 1991. She also earned numerous honorary accolades for her valuable artistic contributions.
