Iraqi MP Affirms Country's Stability and Respect for Foreign Visitors Amid Travel Warnings

MP Ali Nahir Al-Saray affirmed today, Saturday, that Iraq is experiencing a comprehensive state of stability, security, and peaceful coexistence among its diverse communities. Al-Saray explained that the significant efforts exerted by security forces across all formations have contributed to eliminating any risks related to armed conflicts or terrorism. He pointed out that foreign nationals and visitors to Iraq enjoy deep respect and full safety from all segments of the Iraqi people, considering that there is no reason for concern regarding their safety. This statement comes as the U.S. Department of State issued a travel warning to Iraq, indicating that Baghdad is unable to guarantee the safety of its citizens due to risks of terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflicts, crime, and health hazards. The department clarified in its statement that the U.S. government's ability to provide emergency services to its citizens in Iraq is limited due to security conditions, urging Americans to avoid traveling to Iraq for any reason. The statement added that the Iraqi government cannot guarantee the safety of American citizens from sudden outbreaks of violence or armed conflicts. It also noted that U.S. government employees in Iraq are required to follow strict security protocols, with possible additional restrictions on the number of personnel due to evolving security situations. The department confirmed significant risks including violence and kidnapping, and that armed groups, including ISIS and other militias, pose threats to individuals and American interests, using improvised explosive devices, drones, and direct attacks. Recent attacks targeted various sites such as hotels, universities, energy infrastructure, airports, and diplomatic facilities considered affiliated with the United States.
