Iraqi political circles witnessed a decisive affirmation of national sovereignty and non-interference, as the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Hebat al-Halbousi, announced on Saturday that exploiting Iraqi territory as a launchpad to threaten the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or any neighboring country is "absolutely rejected and condemned." Commenting on recent attacks targeting the Kingdom, Halbousi reiterated his country's categorical rejection of using Iraqi lands, or its airspace, to threaten the security of Riyadh or any other nation in the region. He clarified that such actions are inconsistent with Iraq's foreign policy and supreme national interests, and they contradict its fraternal relations with neighbors. In this regard, the Parliament Speaker underscored the paramount importance of adhering to the principle of confining weapons exclusively to the state and its constitutional institutions, under the command of the Commander-in-Chief. He emphasized this measure is crucial for strengthening state sovereignty and maintaining the country's security and internal stability, as well as preventing Iraq from being drawn into destabilizing regional conflicts. Halbousi also expressed full support for government measures, which included opening an urgent investigation to uncover parties involved in these aggressions. He stressed the necessity of taking appropriate legal actions against anyone proven complicit. He further commended government efforts to contain the escalating situation and preserve fraternal relations with Saudi Arabia, to protect Iraq's interests and spare the region further escalation.
