Within the framework of its continuous efforts to apply laws and achieve justice within correctional institutions, the Ministry of Justice revealed the monthly position regarding the numbers of released prisoners by the Iraqi Correctional Department during September of 2026. Official data showed that the total number of those whose release was processed reached six hundred and one inmates, and this figure was distributed to include the capital, Baghdad, in addition to a number of other Iraqi governorates. The ministry indicated in the context of the statistical details that the vast majority of those included in the release, numbering four hundred and seventy-two inmates, left the prisons pursuant to various judicial decisions. In the same context, the number of inmates whose files met the regulations and conditions of the General Amnesty Law reached one hundred and twenty-nine inmates, after all prescribed administrative and legal procedures were completed for them. The ministry concluded its assertions that the Iraqi Correctional Department continues with full seriousness in following up and implementing release procedures successively, immediately upon finishing the auditing and completion of all necessary legal requirements. It stressed that these steps come in complete harmony with approved legislation and legal frameworks, clearly reflecting the concerned authorities' commitment to performing their functional and humanitarian duties according to the highest standards of accuracy and professional responsibility.
