Khamenei Warns of Expanding Confrontation with Washington and Links Iraq to Resistance Fronts

Iranian Supreme Leader Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei warned on Wednesday of expanding the confrontation with the United States if attacks against his country are repeated, noting that recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz and the targeting of U.S. bases in the region represent a shift in the balance of power. In a message marking the National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance, observed on November 4, Khamenei stated that Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz and the destruction of U.S. military bases in regional countries, although a response to American aggression and crimes in the imposed third war, also constitute an initial struggle against arrogance at the regional level. He cautioned that the confrontation would take much broader dimensions if the assaults are repeated, considering that events in the Gulf, especially in the Strait of Hormuz, have exposed the false image of an invincible United States, revealed the weakness of governments relying on external forces for their security, and demonstrated the inability of major powers to protect their allies. He added that this power, alongside the unity of the fronts of truth and the intelligent and capable heroic achievements of the resistance front—from Palestine and Lebanon to Iraq and Yemen—signals a bright omen for raising the banner of the front of truth and paving the way for a new global order. Regarding relations with Washington, Khamenei said that American hostility toward Iran is no longer linked to specific events or disputes but has turned into an ongoing confrontation, accusing the U.S. of seeking to divide the country, subjugate its people, overthrow its regime, and destroy its civilization. He reviewed a series of American interventions in Iranian affairs, starting with the 1953 coup against Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh, continuing with support for the Shah's regime, the Iran-Iraq war, economic sanctions, and culminating in the assassination of former Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and recent military attacks that reportedly resulted in the deaths of his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as several military leaders, scientists, and civilians. The Iranian leader emphasized that Washington aims to impose unconditional surrender on Iran, warning that concessions will not end hostility but will encourage the U.S. to make additional demands and launch new wars. He also considered reliance on changes in the American administration or shifts in U.S. political power balances a major mistake, affirming that altering U.S. behavior cannot be achieved through granting privileges. Khamenei described the U.S. military power and international influence as undergoing an irreversible decline, asserting that the retreat of American hegemony is accelerating due to recent military and political developments. The term "unity of fronts" refers to a strategy linking confrontation fronts in the region, coordinating military and political movements between Iran and allied armed groups to prevent isolating any front from the others. This concept emerged during the 2022 Palestinian confrontations and expanded after the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023, to include Lebanese Hezbollah, Iraqi pro-Iranian armed factions, and Yemen's Ansar Allah (Houthis), who engaged in attacks on Israel and targeted navigation in the Red Sea. In Iraq, the concept is associated with factions operating within what is known as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, which have carried out attacks on bases hosting American forces in Iraq and Syria, as well as announced operations against Israeli targets, while the Iraqi government affirms its rejection of turning the country's territory into a battleground for regional conflicts.
