Javier Tebas, President of La Liga, launched a fierce attack on Real Madrid amidst escalating rhetoric from within the club and its affiliated media regarding refereeing decisions. Tebas rejected the circulating narrative suggesting that the "Royal Club" is deliberately targeted by referees, asserting that this ongoing debate aims to divert attention from the genuine technical issues Real Madrid has faced during the opening matches of the current season. In a series of posts on his official social media accounts, Tebas directly criticized the discourse emanating from Madrid, describing it as an attempt to construct a "perpetual conspiracy story." The La Liga president further clarified: "When it's not Negreira, it's the referee, and when it's not, he's not international," highlighting the shifting justifications presented by the club or its close associates when addressing the refereeing file. Tebas clarified that all teams participating in the Spanish league have their matches officiated by both international and non-international referees alike. He emphasized the fundamental principle that no club has the right to choose the referee for its matches, or to object to a referee's identity simply because it does not align with their preferences or preconceived expectations. In another context, the President of the Spanish League touched upon Real Madrid's venerable standing within the competition, acknowledging the significant role the club plays in enriching La Liga's history and its global appeal. However, he strongly rejected reducing the entire value of the championship to Real Madrid's presence alone, stressing that the competition's importance is not derived from a single sports entity. Tebas continued his remarks by stating: "Real Madrid is very important to La Liga, but to say that La Liga has no value without it reflects contempt for other clubs, their fans, and their history. The competition is not owned by anyone." More sharply, Tebas responded to the hypothesis that Real Madrid is systematically targeted by referees. He deemed this argument to lack any logical basis and not to be supported by strong evidence proving the existence of a directed policy against the club. In this regard, he stated: "The claim that referees are biased against Real Madrid is like living in another galaxy." Tebas opined that the repeated promotion of the idea of referee bias against the "Royal Club" is merely a smokescreen to cover up fundamental problems that have emerged within the team, whether concerning technical performance, achieved results, or even match management methods. Tebas added: "That story serves as an alibi to cover up other shortcomings that appear at first glance in these early matches of the season. It is more comfortable to point to a conspiracy than to explain what is happening on the pitch." The league president concluded his defense by affirming that the occurrence of refereeing errors, even if they recur in more than one match or over years, cannot be considered conclusive proof of an organized conspiracy targeting Real Madrid. He concluded his statements by saying: "A refereeing error does not prove a conspiracy, nor does its repetition for years make it true."
