The Iraqi judiciary announced today, Tuesday, the issuance of life sentences for six French nationals, along with a 15-year prison sentence for a seventh individual of the same nationality, on charges of belonging to the terrorist organization ISIS. The Karkh Criminal Court stated that the sentences were issued in the presence of the defendants' legal representatives and officials from the French embassy in Iraq, emphasizing that the accused are classified as "highly dangerous" due to their roles in threatening national security and destabilizing Iraq and Syria, as well as their involvement in inciting terrorist acts in other countries. These seven convicts were part of a group of 47 French suspects handed over by Iraqi authorities after being detained in northeastern Syria last year. They were investigated by the First Karkh Investigative Court before being referred to the competent court for legal proceedings.
