The government of Luxembourg launched a comprehensive investigation on Saturday, following a temporary suspension of flight services at Luxembourg Airport the previous night. This precautionary measure was taken after unidentified and unauthorized drones were spotted flying within the airspace above the Findel area, according to reports. This sudden disruption led to the diversion of 19 flights in total to other airports, necessitating rapid coordination to manage the affected air traffic. Operations at the airport resumed normally around 1:20 AM local time, corresponding to 23:20 GMT on Friday evening. For his part, Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, described this development as "a new phenomenon for Luxembourg," noting "the presence of potentially larger drones in the country's airspace." Frieden told reporters on Saturday that this phenomenon had been observed "over the past few days," which prompted the precautionary action taken last night to ensure the safety and security of the airspace. In an immediate response to the events, Luxembourg's "Joint Ministerial Drone Evaluation Unit" convened to thoroughly assess the situation. Prime Minister Luc Frieden also chaired an extended meeting that included several ministers and relevant authorities to discuss the rapidly unfolding developments and determine necessary steps. As investigations continue, the government affirmed that "the information available at this stage does not allow for definitive conclusions to be drawn." The competent authorities are continuing to analyze all collected data and information, in addition to conducting necessary examinations, in close cooperation with their international partners to fully uncover the circumstances of the incident.
