Meteorology authority denies any indicators of winter dust storms in Iraq

As part of monitoring climate conditions and expected weather phenomena across cities and provinces, the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismology confirmed that no indicators have been detected pointing to the formation of dust storms throughout the upcoming winter season in the country, while relevant circles anticipate scattered rainfall covering several areas during current hours and coming days. In this context, the official spokesperson of the authority, Amer Al-Jabri, stated in press remarks that the general weather condition will tend towards partial cloudiness that gradually turns into cloudy in specific stations and sectors, with clear probabilities of rainfall ranging in intensity from light to moderate, occasionally accompanied by thunder and lightning at intervals in scattered spots across the central and northern regions, concentrating mainly in their eastern sections, in addition to limited geographical ranges within the northern sections of the southern region. Regarding expected wind movement and directions, Al-Jabri explained that the winds in the central and northern sectors will be northwesterly with speeds ranging between ten and twenty kilometers per hour with temporary calm and periods of stillness in some locations, while turning to become southeasterly in the southern region. He affirmed that horizontal visibility levels remain within very good limits and will not record any negative impacts hindering traffic movement or affecting the air navigation sector. As for temperatures, he noted that they will maintain their proximity to rates recorded the previous day in the central and northern regions, with a slight and limited rise recorded in the southern region, allowing moderate autumn atmospheres to prevail that tend to warmth and heat at noon, and become pleasant tending to relative coolness in early morning and night. The specialized authorities reviewed climate developments indicating that the current week will witness slight variation in temperatures with projections of a future decline within their general natural rates. On the other hand, the weather forecasting department mentioned that no data has been recorded indicating the passage of extreme and severe weather conditions during coming days. Regarding the features of the upcoming winter season, Al-Jabri clarified that the forecasting department has not yet launched its initial preliminary report regarding the season's details, explaining that expectations will be announced as soon as official documents related to the matter are issued. He also stressed the absence of any current evidence of dust storms, noting at the same time that some transient dusty conditions may occasionally appear with wind speeds reaching fifty or sixty kilometers per hour during them without posing a danger or hindering navigation or land transport. Concerning the rainfall file, he pointed out that quantities are accurately monitored via meteorological stations, recorded in official registers, and subjected to annual comparison with data from the Climate and Scientific Research Center. He expected that usual rainfall will start moderately to lightly starting from November and occasionally extend to December, affirming that the effectiveness of pressure systems controls the volume of rain and distribution areas. The authority concluded by affirming that temperatures and atmospheric conditions appear completely normal, noting its commitment to publishing any warnings or new reports issued by the weather forecasting department in due course.
