The Ministry of Oil disclosed on Wednesday that the tanker targeted within Iraqi territorial waters is a chartered vessel operated by the Iraqi Oil Tankers Company. In a statement, the Ministry clarified that the vessel, a (storage) type used for fuel oil products, sustained an impact from an unknown source while inside Iraqi territorial waters. This resulted in minor material damage to its hull. The Ministry confirmed the incident caused no human casualties or crew injuries, nor any product leakage from its cargo into the waters. Competent authorities are currently investigating the incident's circumstances, working to verify the source of the impact and determine its causes.
