OPEC Adjusts Global Oil Demand Forecasts, Anticipating Stronger Medium-Term Rebound

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has elevated its forecast for global oil demand growth in 2027 to 2.36 million barrels per day, signaling expectations of a stronger, sustained recovery in crude consumption over the medium term. This reflects the organization's confidence in the future continuity of energy demand. Conversely, the organization revised down its estimate for global oil demand growth in 2026 to 380,000 barrels per day. This reduction, compared to earlier projections, reflects ongoing pressures on the global economy and their potential impact on energy consumption in the near term. On the supply front, OPEC maintained its forecast for oil supply growth from non-OPEC+ countries unchanged at 620,000 barrels per day for 2027. Concurrently, the demand forecast for OPEC+ oil in 2027 was raised to 43.9 million barrels per day, indicating an increased need for the alliance's supplies to meet growing global consumption and stabilize the market. These adjustments in OPEC's estimates come as investors closely monitor global energy demand trends and the production policies enacted by the OPEC+ alliance to maintain stability in international oil markets. Furthermore, the organization kept its global economic growth forecasts at 3% for 2026 and 3.2% for 2027, pointing to a consistent outlook for the world economy in the next two years, thereby providing a foundation for its oil market projections.
