Amid ongoing security developments in the region, the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs in the Kurdistan Region issued an official clarification today, Wednesday, resolving the debate surrounding the military file. The ministry categorically denied receiving any air defense system, affirming the inaccuracy of circulating reports regarding the arrival of a system to its headquarters. In an official statement, it explained that certain local media outlets and social media pages circulated news attributed to an internal ministry source regarding the arrival of an air defense system, stressing that none of its official channels or sources made any statement in this regard. It added that these reports are completely baseless, renewing its total denial and confirming that no type of air defense system has reached the Peshmerga forces. This official denial coincides with previous calls made by Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani yesterday, Tuesday, urging the federal government in Baghdad to provide the region with modern air defense systems to counter ongoing drone attacks targeting various areas in the region periodically. In a related context, the regional prime minister ruled out the possibility of terrorist groups resuming their activities in Iraq following the withdrawal of the US-led international coalition forces from the country.
