Planning Ministry Emphasizes Mandatory Laboratory Testing for All Products

The Ministry of Planning has confirmed that all food and non-food products undergo thorough laboratory testing, emphasizing that electronic approval of inspection results is not feasible without conducting the necessary laboratory analyses. Mohammed Yousif, Director of the Food Industries Department at the Standardization and Quality Control Authority, stated that the food sector has witnessed significant advancements globally in manufacturing, preservation, and packaging in recent years. He pointed out that scientific warnings regarding hydrogenated oils and their negative health impacts have driven the search for alternatives such as rice, coconut, and almond oils, leading to a substantial expansion in alternative oil products. He added that the dairy sector and its products have experienced considerable industrial growth and diversification. Yousif highlighted recent focus on the importance of explanatory data related to allergens and health warnings, especially for products containing dairy or nuts, as well as the necessity of accurately indicating caffeine content on packaging. Regarding electronic product conformity, Yousif confirmed that this is not practically possible, as product evaluation requires laboratory tests including microbial, physical, and chemical analyses, and cannot be replaced by electronic inspection alone.
