Qatar Denies Hosting Iranian Delegation at Damascus Embassy

The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Damascus has vehemently denied circulating reports about the "arrival of an Iranian delegation in Syrian territory under Qatari patronage and its hosting at the Qatari diplomatic mission's headquarters in the capital, Damascus." In an official statement, the Qatari Embassy affirmed these allegations are "completely baseless," lacking any factual basis or reliable information. The diplomatic mission clarified its premises have not been used to host any such delegations or meetings. The statement added that Qatar's diplomatic activities in Syria are conducted in full coordination with official Syrian authorities and are characterized by transparency. These actions aim to support stability efforts and enhance dialogue, avoiding any unofficial or parallel arrangements. The Embassy urged media outlets to exercise accuracy and rely on documented information, cautioning that publishing unverified news could have negative repercussions on regional stability and inter-state relations. This denial follows claims of a sensitive Iranian visit to Damascus, reportedly under Qatari sponsorship four days prior, by an Iranian delegation led by Javad Ghaffari, former commander of Iranian forces in Syria. Some media and social media pages further claimed this visit followed a meeting between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani and the Iranian Ambassador to Beirut, Mohammad Reza Shaibani, who was declared "persona non grata" by Lebanese authorities months ago.
