The Intelligence Agency announced on Thursday evening the arrest of a suspect involved in armed robbery incidents in the provinces of Baghdad and Dhi Qar. The agency's statement clarified that the Deputy Minister for Intelligence and Federal Investigations supervised the follow-up on intelligence information indicating the presence of a high-risk target who was on the run and wanted for several criminal cases. The statement added that a specialized team was formed and, after investigation and surveillance, the suspect's location was identified. Upon the security forces' arrival, the suspect opened fire, prompting the enforcement of engagement rules which resulted in his injury and subsequent arrest. The statement pointed out that the suspect committed armed robberies at jewelry stores in Dhi Qar and also targeted a citizen who owns a chain of restaurants in Baghdad, injuring him with a gunshot. It was reported that all legal procedures were taken against the suspect, his statements were recorded in which he openly confessed to the attributed crimes, and the case was referred to the competent judicial authorities.
