Traffic Directorate Reveals Comprehensive Law Amendments and Upcoming Digital App for Vehicle Ownership Transfer

The General Directorate of Traffic is set to launch an innovative electronic application designed to streamline vehicle ownership transfer, aligning with its efforts to update Traffic Law No. 8 of 2019. These proposed amendments cover crucial aspects of the traffic system, emphasizing service simplification and regulatory review. Colonel Haidar Shaker, the Directorate's Media Division Director, stated to the official agency that a draft law to amend Traffic Law articles has been discussed. He clarified the goal is to align with the Directorate's operational advancements, noting a key draft feature is revisiting the requirement for sellers and buyers to physically appear before a registration officer. Shaker elaborated that the upcoming digital application will allow citizens to complete vehicle ownership transfers from home, eliminating the need to visit traffic departments. The amendments also encompass driving licenses, introducing a points system for traffic offenders, and establishing specific vehicle tinting percentages to ensure visibility and public safety, particularly in high temperatures. Furthermore, Colonel Shaker highlighted a legislative intent to review the fine structure, preventing doubling and setting fixed rates for most violations. Nevertheless, stringent deterrents and higher fines will remain for dangerous offenses like driving against traffic and excessive speeding, which are primary causes of accidents. He confirmed implementation will begin once all necessary legislative procedures are complete and the law is voted upon by relevant authorities.
