United Kingdom Backs Iraqi Government Efforts on Weapons Control, Anti-Corruption

The United Kingdom has affirmed its support for the Iraqi government's efforts aimed at combating corruption, implementing financial reforms, strengthening the rule of law, and restricting weapons to state control, with the objective of solidifying stability and reinforcing state institutions. This affirmation came during the reception of Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi, today, Thursday, by the United Kingdom's Ambassador to Iraq, Irfan Siddiq, in Baghdad. The meeting addressed bilateral relations between Iraq and the UK, emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation and expanding partnerships across various fields to serve the mutual interests of both friendly nations. The two sides also discussed recent regional developments, stressing the necessity of concerted regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and adopt dialogue and communication as a means to end crises and establish security and stability. The British Ambassador commended the Iraqi government's endeavors in supporting stability, reiterating his country's readiness to continue cooperation with Iraq on issues of common interest.
