Vance clarifies negotiation challenges with Tehran and conditions enrichment reduction

The US administration continues to evaluate the trajectory of diplomatic relations with the Iranian side amid broad complexities surrounding the joint negotiation file. In this context, US Vice President JD Vance revealed during press statements made on Wednesday that Washington remains open to the possibility of reaching a political settlement with Tehran, while pointing out substantive obstacles hindering a final consensual formula between the two nations. The American official explained that ongoing communication involves Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, yet Washington faces real issues regarding the unclear scope of their actual authorities, in addition to a lack of precise knowledge about the nature of the entity responsible for final sovereign decisions within the Iranian leadership hierarchy. Regarding the conditions required to end the conflict ongoing for seven months, Vance stressed the necessity for the Iranian government to make what he described as a substantive reduction in its technical capabilities for uranium enrichment. The official concluded his statements by emphasizing the contradiction between Tehran's official declarations rejecting the possession of nuclear weapons and its ongoing field activities of enriching uranium to high levels reaching sixty percent. It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump had pointed out the same issues last Friday, expressing surprise at the lack of clear leadership managing affairs in Tehran amid current wartime conditions. On the other hand, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had previously expressed his country's full readiness to relinquish its stockpile enriched at the mentioned levels within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
