Al-Qabanji Calls for National Will in Disarmament File, Religious Authority Holds Final Say

The Friday prayer leader in Najaf, Sayyid Sadr al-Din al-Qabanji, urged a study of the disarmament file based on pure national will, free from foreign pressures. He affirmed the religious authority holds the final say, as it is authorized to issue fatwas. Al-Qabanji stated in his sermon that "Iraq's disarmament file is a hot issue," stressing the importance of being guided by the religious authority's opinion and managing the matter nationally, not via external interventions. He warned of Iraq's internal and external risks. He emphasized that "preserving security, independence, and sovereignty" is the core basis for studying the file, reiterating the religious authority's ultimate decision-making power as the fatwa issuer.
