The Federal Integrity Commission announced Wednesday a seven-year prison sentence for MP Alia Nassif Jassim over illicit gain. This anti-corruption ruling mandates the convicted repay over 61 billion Iraqi dinars in illicit profits, plus an equivalent financial fine. The Commission stated that the Central Criminal Court for Anti-Corruption issued its in-person judgment of seven years against the MP, based on Article (19/second) of the Federal Integrity Commission and Illicit Gain Law No. (30 of 2011) as amended. The verdict compels Nassif to repay 14,239,590,000 Iraqi dinars (fourteen billion, two hundred thirty-nine million, five hundred ninety thousand) and 12,442,500 US dollars (twelve million, four hundred forty-two thousand, five hundred), with an equivalent fine, as per Article (19/fourth) of the same law. Furthermore, the court issued another judgment: three years' severe imprisonment for the convicted for concealing information in her financial disclosure form, as per Article (19/fifth) of the law. The court applied the harshest penalty and upheld the seizure of her movable and immovable assets. The judgment also granted the Federal Integrity Commission the right to claim compensation for damages once the verdict becomes final.
