The BRICS group, in a joint statement from its New Delhi summit on Saturday, expressed profound concern over the noticeable increase in nuclear threat risks and the escalation of global conflicts. The bloc reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful resolutions of international disputes through dialogue, consultation, and diplomacy. The group emphasized the necessity of engaging in conflict prevention efforts, including addressing their root causes. The statement also stressed the importance of working together to maintain the smooth flow of global trade, supply chains, and energy. It called for a multilateral approach respecting diverse national perspectives and positions on critical global issues. BRICS currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the UAE. Founded in 2009, its member states collectively account for over 40% of the world's population and nearly a quarter of the global economy. Chinese President Xi Jinping described the bloc as a "leading group" in the Southern Hemisphere and a model for self-reliance among emerging and developing countries, emphasizing innovation-driven development.
