Central Bank of Iraq announces new travel currency allocation mechanism

Within ongoing efforts to regulate the currency market and exchange mechanisms, the Central Bank of Iraq has unveiled a new organizational step allowing traveling citizens to obtain their designated foreign currency quota. Under the announced regulatory procedures, it was decided to allocate two thousand US dollars to each traveler, to be disbursed once every two months, with a maximum of six times during the year. The bank clarified in its official statement that this arrangement aims to regulate the foreign currency sale process and ensure its actual delivery to rightful beneficiaries according to previously announced regulations and standards. It has been officially decided to begin implementing this new mechanism starting Sunday, October 18, 2026, to ensure smooth banking procedures for travelers.
