The Central Criminal Court in Baghdad, on Wednesday, issued a death sentence against a drug trafficker, convicting him of the crime of drug dealing. In detailing the case, the Supreme Judicial Council explained that the convict was apprehended with a massive quantity of 85 kilograms of illicit drugs, including 489,000 Captagon pills. These substances were introduced into the country using an innovative method: an aerial balloon equipped with GPS technology, intended for distribution and trafficking among users. The verdict against the defendant was based on the provisions of Article 27/first of the Law on Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances No. 50 of 2017, in addition to Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code.
