The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for respecting the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, considering its closure in the current manner completely violates international law.
The spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Al-Ansari, stressed that no country, including Iran, is allowed to obstruct or close the strait to maritime navigation.
He explained that the State of Qatar, according to the rules of international law, has the right to safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that Qatar's priorities focus on stabilizing regional stability and preventing a return to hostilities, in addition to finding a final and sustainable solution to the crisis instead of a temporary calm.
In a related context, Qatar expressed its full support for Pakistan's mediation efforts between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that supporting mediation efforts is the basis now for solving the crisis.
The spokesman added that international and regional contacts currently focus on ensuring the return of stability and opening the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation.
Regarding the Islamabad negotiations, the spokesman said it is not possible to speculate on their results yet, but work is underway to reach a solution. He also noted that the recent passage of two Qatari liquefied gas tankers through the Strait of Hormuz does not mean navigation has returned to normal, stressing that any change to the status quo regarding freedom of navigation in the strait cannot be accepted.
