The Ministry of Electricity announced on Friday comprehensive updates regarding regional interconnection projects, confirming the daily import of 600 megawatts from Turkey alongside an expanded government plan to boost these supplies to 2,000 megawatts, while noting that the electricity import contract with Jordan expired in mid-September. Official ministry spokesperson Ahmad Turki Jiyad stated that ongoing efforts seek to renew the Jordanian agreement by next summer, while talks have started with Saudi Arabia for a transmission project targeting roughly 2,000 megawatts within a 24-month execution timeframe following contract signing. Regarding the Gulf interconnection, Jiyad affirmed that Iraq has completed 98% of its obligations to deliver 500 megawatts, awaiting the Kuwaiti side where work halted due to regional events. He concluded by emphasizing that cross-border link projects reinforce generation alongside constructing new national stations, without serving as a substitute.
