Within the framework of ongoing efforts to enforce the rule of law and protect the urban environment, the Baghdad Operations Command announced today, Wednesday, the implementation of strict measures including the removal of metal smelting furnaces and the closure of industrial facilities that do not comply with approved environmental standards. An official statement explained that the Diwani Order Committee (241285) continues its field tasks within the campaign aimed at auditing the status of unauthorized factories, workshops, and metal smelting furnaces. The committee successfully managed, in joint coordination with detachments from the National Security Service, Karkh and Rusafa environmental police, as well as the Baghdad Environment Directorate and responsible municipal departments, and with military support from the Fifth and Second Divisions of the Federal Police, to carry out raids that resulted in the removal of six metal smelting furnaces, along with the closure of seven factories and two yards specialized in recycling aluminum and plastic materials for operating outside legal and environmental regulations. The regulatory campaign was not limited to the environmental aspect alone, but extended to include legal follow-up on labor, resulting in the detention of eleven violators of residency and nationality laws who were working inside those locations, within the areas of Sabaa Qasour and Taji in both sides of Karkh and Rusafa in the capital.
