Final Schedule for 2027 Asian Cup Matches Announced

The organizers of the 2027 Asian Cup announced on Monday the final schedule for the tournament matches, which will be hosted by Saudi Arabia early next year. This announcement aims to reassure national associations across Asia about the progress of preparations according to the approved plans, especially in light of recent security developments in the region. The organizers confirmed the kickoff times for all six group matches and their venues, with the tournament lasting one month and featuring 24 teams competing across eight stadiums located in three cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar. The tournament is set to begin on January 7th with a match between the Saudi national team and Palestine in Group A, scheduled for 8:00 PM local time in Riyadh. Iran will compete in Group C alongside Syria, China, and Kyrgyzstan, starting their campaign against China on January 9th at 4:30 PM local time at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, which has a capacity of 26,000 spectators. On the same day, Australia will start their journey in Group D facing Singapore in Al Khobar. The final match is scheduled for Friday, February 5th, at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, which can accommodate 72,000 fans. The Asian Football Confederation stated that the distribution of venues and match timings in the final schedule take into account commercial requirements and major broadcast needs, alongside local arrangements aimed at increasing attendance and enhancing the fan experience. Recent continental club tournaments have faced disruptions due to security concerns, leading to the cancellation of some international sporting events planned in the region. Additionally, the match between Al Nassr, featuring Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neftchi Fergana of Uzbekistan in the AFC Champions League Elite, originally set for October 12th, was postponed following a security warning issued by the Saudi Civil Defense. The Al Nassr match against Al Wasl, which was scheduled for Monday at their home stadium as part of the same competition, was also postponed. Other sporting events have been affected as well, including the relocation of the WTA season-ending championships from Riyadh to Indian Wells, California, USA. Furthermore, the French organization Amaury Sport and the Saudi Motorsports Company announced on Sunday the transfer of the 2027 Dakar Rally edition from Saudi Arabia to another undisclosed country.
