French major stores face severe losses due to protests

Recent field developments in French cities have highlighted severe economic consequences, as major stores and global luxury brands suffered widespread damage and initial losses estimated at hundreds of millions of euros due to a wave of looting and vandalism accompanying ongoing demonstrations across the country. Initial figures showed about 1500 commercial facilities were affected, putting the retail sector and upscale shops in the face of a real crisis and growing concerns over the scale of financial fallout. The affected list included eleven prominent names in fashion, luxury goods, technology, and shopping, led by global firms such as Apple, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Hermes, Burberry, Lacoste, and Celine, in addition to vandalism reaching Decathlon, Sephora, Carrefour, and Galeries Lafayette, one of France's premier retail landmarks, confirming the comprehensive nature of the damage and the diversity of affected sectors. Meanwhile, slogans left on the storefronts of targeted shops, such as eat the rich and tax the rich, reflected deep frustration and anger over economic conditions and class disparities, prompting leaders in the commercial sector to demand faster disbursement of financial compensations to the victims and stricter security and legal measures against elements involved in looting and destruction. The repercussions were not limited to the commercial side, extending to the cultural and tourism sectors, as protesting students on Monday closed the main entrance of the Louvre Museum in Paris, a step taken in solidarity with high school student movements marked by violence and denouncing what they considered security repression, which resulted in disrupting visitor movement and delaying the usual opening time to the public at nine in the morning, amid confirmations from the museum administration and labor unions regarding complete prevention of visitor entry.
