From University of Pittsburgh: Revolution in Organ Transplantation Frees Patients from Immunosuppressants

 A study published in Nature Communications demonstrated the possibility of exempting liver recipients from the severe side effects of immunosuppressive drugs. By using donor cells to prime the patient's body, trial participants were able to live safely drug-free one year post-transplant, a strategic goal pursued by scientists for three decades to reduce infection and cancer risks associated with traditional treatments.
