Gold prices experienced a notable decline on Tuesday, influenced by increasing expectations that the US Federal Reserve will continue to raise interest rates for a longer period. This development comes as markets await statements from Federal Reserve officials regarding the future direction of monetary policy. Spot gold stabilized at $4344.29 per ounce, while US gold futures remained at $4381.80. These levels reflect market caution due to anticipated pressures. In this context, Chris Weston, Head of Research at Pepperstone, explained that investors are anticipating signals regarding a potential further rate hike in October. Weston noted that rising oil prices could fuel inflation expectations and put downward pressure on gold. The Federal Reserve had raised its key interest rate by 25 basis points last week. Alberto Musalem, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, added that further hikes might be necessary to effectively curb inflation. In other precious metals markets, spot silver rose by 0.3% to $66.19 per ounce, platinum climbed 0.3% to $1792.76, and palladium increased by 0.3% to settle at $1305.10.
