Gold Stabilizes Near Seven-Week Low Awaiting Crucial US Economic Data

Gold markets exhibited cautious stability on Tuesday, with the precious metal holding firm near its lowest levels recorded in over seven weeks. This steadiness precedes the release of crucial US economic data, anticipated to offer fresh insights into the likely trajectory of interest rates, amidst persistent concerns over escalating inflation. Spot gold prices, within this context, settled at $4124.57 per ounce, while US gold futures declined 0.3% to reach $4156.70. Gold's recent sensitivity is largely attributed to strong expectations that US interest rates will remain elevated for an extended period, particularly with the ongoing rise in global oil prices. These combined factors could intensify inflationary pressures, potentially prompting central banks to uphold strict monetary policies, thereby diminishing gold's appeal as a non-yielding asset compared to other investments. Investors are keenly awaiting a series of key economic reports this week, including ADP employment data, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, and the non-farm payrolls report. These figures are deemed crucial for shaping expectations regarding future US monetary policy. Elsewhere in the precious metals market, spot silver fell 0.6% to $60.62 per ounce. Platinum also decreased 1% to $1699.86, and palladium experienced a 0.5% drop, settling at $1209.08.
