Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, warned that the United States' breach of agreements would have global repercussions, not just regional ones. This warning came during his meeting with Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, on the sidelines of the annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York, as part of his diplomatic consultations. Araqchi explained that the current situation, including insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, directly results from aggressive actions by the U.S. and Israel since February 28, 2026, which continue in various forms, according to Iran's Tasnim news agency. He also appreciated Ankara's efforts to promote regional peace and security. The Minister affirmed that Washington's violation of commitments led to the breach of the Islamabad understanding less than three weeks after signing, impacting the region and the world. He stressed the importance of regional countries playing an active role in restoring security and stability through mutual trust, urging them to refrain from engaging in illegal U.S. interventionist actions, military or economic, and confirming Tehran's readiness for cooperation. At the meeting's conclusion, the Iranian and Turkish foreign ministers discussed bilateral ties, regional and international developments, and exchanged views on common interest issues.
