Iraq Assures US Envoy of Commitment to State Arms Control

Iraq's National Security Advisor, Qassim Al-Araji, affirmed the Iraqi government's ongoing commitment to organize the process of restricting arms to state control. This came during Al-Araji's reception today of the US Chargé d'affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris. The two sides reviewed the latest developments in the region and discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation between Iraq and the United States, particularly in counter-terrorism and the exchange of information and expertise. Al-Araji emphasized to the US Chargé d'affaires that the Iraqi government is proceeding with its plans aimed at consolidating security and stability, contributing to de-escalation in the region, in addition to organizing the process of restricting arms to the state. He also pointed out that Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi is working to build national institutions capable of making independent sovereign decisions, with the goal of embarking on a comprehensive development process and building a strong economy capable of achieving the government's objectives. For his part, the US Chargé d'affaires reaffirmed Washington's support for the Iraqi government and its plans to enhance national sovereignty and establish security and stability in Iraq and the wider region.
