Iraq Prepares to Host OIC Foreign Ministers After 45 Years

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed on Sunday that hosting the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will bolster Iraq's regional and international diplomatic standing, while reinforcing its role in harmonizing joint Islamic positions. In an official statement, the conference spokesperson, Ambassador Hassanein Kamel, explained that the capital will host the ministerial meetings after 45 years since holding the 1981 session. He pointed out that Iraq will assume the presidency of the Council of Foreign Ministers for an entire year, thereby supporting shared Islamic initiatives and coordination. Kamel added that the upcoming Baghdad session will function as an active diplomatic venue to ease tensions, bridge perspectives, and foster dialogue across the Islamic world. He stressed that the Palestinian issue and developments in the Gaza Strip will headline the agenda, alongside key humanitarian and political topics, noting that solidarity remains essential for achieving lasting peace and sustainable development.
