The Iraqi veterans team kicks off its journey today, Friday, in the second edition of the Gulf Veterans Cup, facing Oman in the Qatari capital, Doha, which is hosting the tournament from October 30 to November 5, with eight teams participating. The Iraqi team aims to make a strong start and secure points in the opening match to strengthen its chances of competing for the top spot in Group A, which also includes Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, under the guidance of coach Shaker Mahmoud who relies on the experience of his players and their ability to decide the opening encounter. The participating teams are divided into two groups, with Group B including Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, and Yemen. The Iraqi team aspires to defend its title after winning the inaugural edition held in Kuwait earlier last year.
