Baghdad's Ibn Al-Haitham Educational Hospital for Eyes received 12 cases of eye injuries resulting from the use of firecrackers and pellet guns during the blessed Eid al-Adha holiday. Dr. Walid Hamid Jassim, the hospital's director, stated that most of the injuries reported to the hospital's wards during the Eid days were among children. He confirmed that all health and medical teams at the hospital mobilized their efforts to provide necessary care for the injured. Dr. Jassim explained that some cases required immediate surgical intervention, while others received intensive treatments and a medical protocol extending for weeks to ensure full recovery. Jassim urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid dealing with promoters of firecrackers or dangerous games that use pellets, emphasizing that these items have caused severe cases. He also called upon relevant authorities to take strict legal measures against violators to provide adequate protection for children and prevent the recurrence of such injuries in future occasions and holidays. He further stressed the importance of intensifying awareness campaigns among families regarding the grave dangers of these games, which are not limited to eye and face injuries but also include burns and limb injuries. He appealed to specialized authorities to tighten control over the sale of these materials and educate families about their risks.
