Iraqi Foreign Ministry Dispatches Committee to Monitor Assault on Its Students in Semnan, Iran

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday the dispatch of a committee to the Iranian city of Semnan to follow up on an assault suffered by a number of Iraqi students there. This step comes after the Ministry closely monitored with grave concern the details of the assault that took place at the students' residence in Semnan province, carried out by Iranian citizens. In this context, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein directed the Iraqi Embassy in Tehran to ascertain the circumstances of the incident. Consequently, the embassy dispatched a committee to check on the students' conditions and to communicate with the relevant Iranian authorities to follow up on the investigation proceedings, emphasizing the necessity of taking appropriate legal measures against those responsible. The Ministry also commended the measures taken by the Iranian authorities to provide protection for the students, including their transfer to their university to sit for their exams. Baghdad underscored the importance of ensuring suitable conditions that guarantee the security and safety of Iraqi citizens in Iran, stressing the need to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
