Iraqi naval forces successfully thwarted a piracy attempt today, Saturday, targeting the oil tanker MAYSAL-RAYM, a "tanker" type vessel, near Basra oil port. The incident occurred in the STS area, where the tanker came under attack by armed individuals aboard two boats. A force from the Iraqi Navy promptly responded to the scene, apprehending 11 suspects involved in the incident. The detainees were handed over to Al-Faw police station for investigation, and the two boats used in the operation were seized.
