Ambassador Luqman Abdul Rahim Al-Faili, Iraq's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, has assumed the chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation group, succeeding Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz, Turkey's permanent representative. During the group's meeting held at the UN headquarters, Ambassador Al-Faili expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the Turkish chairmanship during its tenure, emphasizing Iraq's commitment to enhancing cooperation and coordination among member states and unifying their positions on issues of common interest. He highlighted Iraq's dedication during its chairmanship to supporting Islamic world causes, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, as well as promoting Islamic solidarity and activating multilateral work to serve the interests of member states and contribute to consolidating international peace and security. This assumption of the chairmanship underscores Iraq's role in multilateral diplomacy and continues its efforts to strengthen its active presence in international forums, particularly following its leadership of the Group of 77 and China in 2025, reflecting its keenness to coordinate international positions and defend common interests.
