Iraq's Oil Exports Decline in May Amid Continued Shipping Disruptions in Hormuz Strait

Iraq's oil exports experienced a 22.4% month-on-month decline during May, impacted by persistent disruptions linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the repercussions of regional conflict on shipping movements. Tanker tracking data revealed a drop in total Iraqi oil shipments to approximately 266,000 barrels per day in May, compared to 343,000 barrels per day recorded in April. This downturn occurs as Iraq strives to maintain its energy flows amidst ongoing navigation restrictions in the Gulf, which have affected exports from several regional producers since the start of the Iran war.
