The Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Interior announced Sunday that vehicles with Region plates will face fines for traffic violations recorded in other Iraqi provinces, and vice versa. Haiman Mirani, Director-General of the KRG Ministry of Interior Diwan, revealed at a press conference the launch of electronic registration and transaction completion at Erbil Traffic Directorate's heavy vehicle department. This service covers ownership transfers and annual renewals for licenses and permits. Mirani confirmed fees remain unchanged, assuring swift processing, and indicated plans to extend this experience to other departments and directorates. Mirani explained that fine payments are currently manual, but efforts are underway to transition to an electronic system. He also highlighted very high coordination with Iraqi federal departments, noting that citizens can complete part of their transactions electronically via the website. Mirani further confirmed close coordination with federal traffic departments across Iraqi provinces and Baghdad. He stated any fine recorded against a KRI-plated vehicle in any Iraqi province outside the Region would be registered within the Region, and vice versa. Any vehicle with Kurdistan Region plates incurring a violation in any Iraqi province will be fined. Mirani concluded by asserting no vehicle will operate on Region roads unless it meets required safety and security conditions.
