The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, affirmed that the Peshmerga forces represent a fundamental constitutional power and a core component of the Iraqi defense system. Barzani's statements came during an important ceremony held in Erbil, dedicated to the complete unification of Peshmerga formations. In his address on this occasion, Barzani emphasized that the unification process marks the initial step in a long and continuous journey. He clarified that the upcoming phase holds significant importance, as it will focus on enhancing and developing the comprehensive capabilities of the Peshmerga, with particular attention to human capacities. This aims to elevate the level of physical training and military awareness, in alignment with international military standards and criteria, to transform it into a professional, organized national force capable of safeguarding Kurdistan's security and addressing various challenges. Barzani further reiterated that the Peshmerga is not merely a military force but also a symbol of the historical struggle of the people of Kurdistan and an embodiment of their fighting identity. He recalled the heroic role of these forces in defending all components of the population, in their battle against terrorism, and in protecting the values of freedom, democracy, and peaceful coexistence. Addressing the relationship with the federal government, Barzani clarified once more that the Peshmerga forces are a constitutional power and an integral part of Iraq's defense system, considering them a safety valve protecting peace and stability in the country. He called for strengthening security and military coordination and cooperation between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army to ensure mutual security. From this standpoint, Barzani expressed his full readiness to support the federal Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Ali Al-Zaidi, to solidify this strategic partnership. He called on the federal government to guarantee the constitutional rights of Peshmerga forces, including equalizing their salaries and financial entitlements with those of the Iraqi Army. In the context of these developments, Barzani noted that all military formations of the Peshmerga have been officially integrated into a modern and unified structure under the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs. This structure encompasses vital areas such as operations, training, command and control, media, in addition to financial administration.
