In Erbil, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced its rejection of the proposed 2027 budget allocations today, Wednesday, reaffirming its demand for a 14% share of the federal general budget, based on population census results. This position was conveyed by the KRG spokesperson, Peshawa Hawramani, during a press conference held after a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and his deputy Qubad Talabani. Hawramani clarified that "the actual share of the Kurdistan Region from the federal budget should be 14%, not the proposed 12.67%," noting that the latter percentage contradicts the population census data conducted by the federal government. Hawramani further emphasized the necessity of guaranteeing the salaries of KRG employees within the federal general budget and separating this issue from political disputes. He pointed out that over one million beneficiaries in the region receive their salaries through the "Hesabi" project. Finally, the government spokesperson called for the Iraqi Minister of Planning to be hosted in the Council of Representatives to discuss the Kurdistan Region's share of the federal general budget.
