The Supreme Judicial Council affirmed today, Wednesday, on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, that safeguarding constitutional freedoms and rights and ensuring their exercise constitutes the very essence of a democratic state and a fundamental pillar for the rule of law. The Council underscored that the judiciary serves as a strong guarantee for preserving and protecting these essential rights. Furthermore, the Council emphasized that the Iraqi Constitution has explicitly guaranteed the rights to freedom of opinion, expression, and respect for diversity and pluralism. It clarified that the exercise of these rights must be conducted in a manner that upholds the dignity and rights of others, avoiding any transgression or offense against various components, religions, doctrines, or beliefs. This stance aims to consolidate the principles of freedom, justice, the rule of law, and foster comprehensive societal peace.
