Air strikes resumed on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, this morning, as the limited three-day truce imposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded. This development coincided with the ongoing visit of U.S. envoys to Ukraine within the context of diplomatic efforts. Immediately after the truce expired, reports indicated Kyiv was subjected to jet-powered drone attacks, amid news of fires erupting across the city. President Putin had ordered a halt to strikes on Kyiv for three days, effective from midnight on September 5. This decision came after Moscow received an official request through diplomatic channels, as he announced during his meeting with Witkoff and Kushner in the Kremlin. During the same meeting, Putin also noted a "significant and noticeable reduction" in Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory, including Moscow, signaling a decrease in the intensity of Ukrainian attacks. Putin clarified that the Russian truce was geographically and temporally limited to the Kyiv region only, and specifically linked to the U.S. delegation's visit, denying Moscow's response to a broader Ukrainian call for a three-day ceasefire. During these truce days, Ukrainian forces continued to launch attacks on Russian cities and provinces, while Russian forces carried out strikes on targets in other Ukrainian regions, according to defense information. Russian strikes included metallurgical industrial complexes in the Dnipropetrovsk region, which supply defense enterprises, logistics centers, and a power substation in Mykolaiv and its surrounding areas. Russian forces also targeted an industrial facility belonging to "Black Ammo" company in Boryspil, specializing in the production and supply of ammunition and explosives for Ukrainian security forces. Additionally, cargo ships carrying military and technical equipment sent from Western countries, and a patrol boat, were struck in Chornomorsk port (Odesa region) and the Black Sea waters. A loading industrial complex in Izmail port, used for unloading military goods, was also targeted. This development concludes intense diplomatic activity, marked by the visit of Witkoff and Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv on September 5 and 6, respectively. Washington continues its mediation efforts between the two parties amidst ongoing Russian military operations across multiple fronts in Ukraine, with the exception of the limited truce over Kyiv that ended this morning.
