The Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities announced that the rehabilitation project for the Baghdad-Karbala Holy Road, a strategic initiative vital for facilitating millions of visitors, is slated for completion by the end of the current year. The project has achieved an actual completion rate of 68%, significantly surpassing the planned 46%. Ammar Adel Hussein, Director General of the Roads and Bridges Department, confirmed engineering teams anticipate completing the Al-Dala overpass by the end of next month. Hussein emphasized the year-end deadline for the entire project, urging accelerated efforts on the remaining final stages, which are currently centered on the Al-Dala overpass. Concurrently, earthworks for approaches are being finalized, with preparations to commence asphalt paving for the overpass and its approaches, alongside final touches like furnishing and lighting. The comprehensive project covers 21 kilometers, including overpasses, and is divided into two primary sections. The first section, 12 kilometers long, runs from Al-Dala intersection to Al-Musayyib intersection in both directions. Works in this segment involved widening the existing road to 20 meters per lane, thorough maintenance and rehabilitation of the old road, re-paving with adjustment and polymer-modified layers, and restoring the central median. Additionally, the project involves constructing two key overpasses along the route: the Al-Dala Bridge, 600 meters long and 20 meters wide, and the Al-Musayyib Overpass at Al-Musayyib intersection, spanning 646 meters with a total width of 21 meters.
