The Ministry of Trade confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday that food prices in Iraqi markets remain lower compared to several neighboring Arab countries, highlighting that the food basket stock is sufficient to supply three meals. The General Manager of the Public Food Trading Company stated that all necessary preparations have been made to continuously secure the food basket items. The company’s assessment indicates that local market prices are more favorable than those in several Arab countries, urging reliance on accurate and reliable data when discussing food security and local markets. Emphasis was placed on the importance of coordinated efforts among relevant authorities to support vulnerable and low-income groups, as rising food prices disproportionately affect these segments, necessitating measures to ease their living burdens. The statement also stressed the need for precise diagnosis of economic challenges and the search for appropriate solutions, warning against traders who exploit crises to excessively raise prices, thereby increasing the strain on citizens, especially those most in need of assistance.
